THE SPECTATORS burst onto the Seattle underground music scene in 1981. Guitarist Byron Duff, Stanford Filarca, and drummer Jeff Farrand were already seasoned pros at their young age, and it showed. The Spectors was one of and probably still among the tightest bands to come out of the Northwest. The Spectators played around town for a little over a year and then dissolved. Farrand moved to San Fransisco, and Stanford became a founding member of The Beat Pagodas. Duff emerged in the mid-1980s as the frontman and guitarist for the trio's Dive and Idiot Culture. Both bands put on some legendary performances leading up to what is sometimes described as the "proto-grunge" era. However, the critic Everett True later wrote the band "makes grunge sound like pasty waste."

Proudly wear this shirt to honor another fine band from Seattle's past. Proceeds help fund the Salish Sea Arts Foundation's work to document, preserve, and archive Northwest music history that might otherwise be lost.
